Today's check-in: peer feedback & reflection

Critical Friend Feedback on Draft Outline:
You will also partner with someone today to be a "critical friend" and get feedback on your draft outline and provide them with feedback.

Focus on Your Unit 2 Goals:
In today's class you will take a look at the Unit 2 goals you set for yourself. What did you want to focus on improving for both research and for historical explanations?   As you begin to prepare for the unit summatives, be sure you have these goals in mind.

Formative Feedback:

Be sure to look over the formative research and the formative explanation rubric and feedback so you also understand what your strengths and areas to focus on for improvement are.

As a reminder, these scores are in Powerschool but do not impact your final semester grade. They are simply used to guide your work and give feedback on your attempt to meet or exceed the standards.

The weight of these scores has already been removed so they have no affect on your current grade in this class.

Class time today:
work on research + One-on-one check-ins

You will spend the bulk of today's class time on your summative research portfolio.   If you would like to meet one-on-one with Mrs. Stewart to discuss your outline for your summative historical explanation, you will have the opportunity to do so.

You will also have all of the Exam Review block (Thursday/Friday) to meet with her if you are not ready today or do not feel the need to meet over the outline but want to check in once you start actual work on the explanation.

Helpful Resources for theSummative Research Portfolio:
  • Summative Task Instructions and Requirements
  • Inquiry/Research Rubric with “I Can” statements
  • Research & Note-taking Tips (Google Slides)
  • Exemplars - Sample Research Portfolios (Excerpts from various portfolios)
  • WH 9  Unit 2 Webpage (has some helpful resources)
  • WH9 Research/Writing Skills webpage

HW: Finalize summative research portfolio

You will need to finish up your summative research portfolio before the start of the Exam Review block (Thursday's class for A Day block; Friday's class for B Day block).
Summative Research Portfolios are due prior to the start of class on Exam Review Day -- you will use all of the Exam Review Day to start on your Final Exam historical explanation.
  • Be sure you have at least 7-8 sources;  at least 2 sources should be new (not from your formative research portfolio)
  • Be sure the name of your source is listed with the notes taken from the source.
  • Be sure you have evaluated your sources using OPVL
  • Be sure you have INSIGHTS for each source. What did you learn from this source that helps you with your research--these are insights or understandings about the topic.
  • Be sure to have a bibliography (list of your sources)
  • Be sure you have evaluated the effectiveness of the research/guiding questions to help you with guiding the research and what to take notes on.
