​HW: READ CHAPTER 1 OF "THE HUMAN STORY" BOOK;
​WRITE 1 PARAGRAPH SUMMARY OF CH. 1

Due Tuesday, Sept. 5 (B Block); Wednesday Sept. 6 (A Blocks)
Read Chapter 1 of "The Human Story" (the book issued to you in class). If  you choose to take notes, do so on a document in your WH Drop folder. Do not write, highlight or mark in this book. If you prefer to annotate, you can add your own annotations using sticky notes-- by flagging pages with the sticky notes and writing your thoughts, questions, etc. on sticky notes throughout this chapter (and future chapters) so that you can reference back to these pages during class discussions. 

After you have read Chapter 1, write/type a 1-paragraph (brief) summary of the chapter.

Note: You will turn this book back in when we have finished using this book at the end of the semester

Today you will be researching your chosen global issue (continue your research). By the end of class, you should be ready to begin developing a 1-page outline. There is a link below to a template for the 1-page outline.​

Today's Driving Questions: 
How did the past shape the world today?
What are global issues?

STATE OF THE WORLD
Today you will begin exploring various global issues and what they are about. 

In small table groups, you will explore what a global issue is and make a list of possible global issues. We will use one example in class for discussion purposes and to provide historical context. Afterwards, you will be asked to think about a global issue you are most interested in researching for an upcoming formative assessment.

HW: Pick a Global Issue to research; find 2 sources (print them out)

​You will pick 1 issue you are very interested/concerned about that you feel the world must address. You will need to find 2 resources that help provide some background about the origins of this issue (where this issue started and/or when it became a "problem"). 

You will eventually need to answer the following question by writing an essay: Explain the causes/contributing factors (at least 2) of a modern global issue.
  1. Pick a global issue that you think needs the world to respond to & consider the following as you make your decision on a topic: ​​Why did you choose it? ​Why is it important?
  2. Research your chosen global issue and find at least 2 sources/articles to address the prompt.
  3. PRINT these articles and bring them to the class on 25/28th August.

August 21/22: The roles of a historian

In today's class, we will be looking at the various roles that a historian plays in helping us interpret and understand history. You will be assigned to a group in which your group will take on one of the roles of a historian.

  • Read "The Many Hats of the Historian"
  • You will need to make a copy of the document you will need to complete for homework while reading. Please be sure to move your document to your WH Drop folder.
