Due Tuesday, Sept. 5 (B Block); Wednesday Sept. 6 (A Blocks) Read Chapter 1 of "The Human Story" (the book issued to you in class). If you choose to take notes, do so on a document in your WH Drop folder. Do not write, highlight or mark in this book. If you prefer to annotate, you can add your own annotations using sticky notes-- by flagging pages with the sticky notes and writing your thoughts, questions, etc. on sticky notes throughout this chapter (and future chapters) so that you can reference back to these pages during class discussions. After you have read Chapter 1, write/type a 1-paragraph (brief) summary of the chapter. Note: You will turn this book back in when we have finished using this book at the end of the semester |

| Today's Driving Questions: How did the past shape the world today? What are global issues? STATE OF THE WORLD Today you will begin exploring various global issues and what they are about. In small table groups, you will explore what a global issue is and make a list of possible global issues. We will use one example in class for discussion purposes and to provide historical context. Afterwards, you will be asked to think about a global issue you are most interested in researching for an upcoming formative assessment. Helpful links to get your group started in thinking about and discussing "Global Issues"

HW: Pick a Global Issue to research; find 2 sources (print them out)
| You will pick 1 issue you are very interested/concerned about that you feel the world must address. You will need to find 2 resources that help provide some background about the origins of this issue (where this issue started and/or when it became a "problem"). You will eventually need to answer the following question by writing an essay: Explain the causes/contributing factors (at least 2) of a modern global issue.
