Today, you will participate in a Gallery Walk that will introduce you to many of the topics, issues, historical events and places we will be learning about in this final unit in World History. Today is an opportunity for you to explore, wonder and make meaning of the things you encounter during this Gallery Walk.

HW/PREP: WRITE the GIST of your understanding of the history of human connections - post in schoology (in connections folder)

You will need to use the artifacts from the Gallery Walk to help you write your summary of your understanding of the history of human connections.  Instructions are posted on the assignment in Schoology.

March 27/28: Finding a good moment in history...

3/27/2017

Today we will be discussing and starting to look for good moments in human history...

Your task -- to pick a good moment in history, learn about it and present what you discover to the class.  You will give a 5-minute presentation on your selected "good moment in history" and the positive impact it has had on the world.

Helpful Links for today's class:
  • "Presenting the Good Moments in History" - Formative Taking Action Presentation (Google Slides)
  • Formative Taking Action - Task steps, rubric, FAQs, etc. (Google Doc)
  • Link to Submit selected "Moment in History" (remember first person to request gets their pick)
  • Check your WH Drop folder for Formative document -- it contains a link to your class' scheduled presentations and list of topics students have selected. This will be updated as students make their selection of presentation topics.

HW: Pick your moment in history - once selected, begin researching...

  • Pick a moment in history (individual or group that identified a problem -- local, regional or global and took action to try to solve it -- this action is the "GOOD moment" in history.
  • Link to submit choice of “GOOD moment” in history (your choice but first come, first serve on the historical moment). In submitting your choice, you will need to have identified the person (or group involved and name the action they took, i.e. "Rosa Parks refusing to sit in the back of the bus on Dec. 1, 1955"). Be sure to have a 2nd option in case your option #1 is already taken.  You can find a link to your class' scheduled presentations and topics already taken on the copy of the formative task document placed in your WH Drop folder .

March 14/15: Summative DBQ: Develop Primary Text document

3/14/2017

Picture

Today, you will work on the first part of your DBQ summative. You will be completing the DBQ summative template (placed in your WH Drop folder).

It is exactly like the formative DBQ except it is for a different conflict and cause. Today's focus is on providing a text source, then evaluating the text source and developing questions that could be used to guide inquiry (research) into this particular cause of the conflict.

Next class, you will do the same but for a primary image source.
This is due by the end of the 2nd class meeting time this week. You will upload your final completed work to Schoology when finished. It is very important that you have reviewed the feedback you received on your formative (if you completed the formative on time by uploading to Schoology when it was due).  This will help guide your work on the summative.

Helpful Resources for Summative DBQ:
Summative DBQ - Group Planning Doc (for sharing sources your group is using) -- 1 group member needs to make a copy and share with the rest of the group.

march 10/13: summative debate

3/10/2017

Today you will give your 90-second argumentative speech + your 30-second rebuttal.  The groups will present in chronological order of conflicts. You have been shown the order in which you and your group members will present in. It will be important that we use today's class time efficiently so that we can get through all of the conflicts and presentations today.
