Work on "Voices" argument + Product

5/16/2019

Today, we will start with a Critical Friends Check-in to get feedback on our product and the argument embedded within it.

The remaining time in class will be spent working on the "Voices" product.

You will also be checking in one-on-one with Mrs. Stewart to make sure things are on track for finishing by 3pm on Tuesday, May 21st.

IF you are creating a 2-D or 3-D piece of art or an original piece of literature (short story, poem, children's book, photo book, etc.) be sure to complete an artist's statement. Add your artist's statement to the slide deck below. Mrs. Stewart will print out your artist's statement for you. Please meet her in the library with your artwork between 3-3:30pm on May 21st.
  • Link to slide deck for artist’s statements (students have editing permission)

If you have a physical product (Trifold board, article, letter, story, 2-D or 3-D art, etc.) please be sure you bring it to the Upper Library area between 3-3:30pm on Tuesday, May 21st.

IF you are creating a digital product, you will need to submit a link to your finished/published product by 3pm on Tuesday, May 21st.
Use the following Google Form to submit the link:

work on product &/or vlog

5/10/2019

You have 2 options today:
  1. Work or the Conceptual Understanding Vlog (Summative)
  2. Work on your Product (also Summative)

Conceptual understanding summative vlog:

Picture
IF you have not yet done the conceptual understanding vlog, please do that first. It is due at the end of class today (A Block: Tues. May 14; B Block: Wed. May 15).  Try to find a quiet place to record.

I want to remind you that you should be sure somewhere towards the beginning of the vlog you should introduce your issue and state how 2 or more concepts are related to the issue (i.e., why the issue is "global", so pervasive, or challenging to resolve as a result of the relationship of something you've identified with these concepts).  Be sure you are focused on explaining the issue through the lens of these concepts and that you use supporting examples (i.e. case studies and examples you looked at in your research). Use more than 1 example--remember, you are trying to prove that this is true in more than one geographic location and in more than one time in history or currently--this issue and the relationship and problems are not isolated to just one time period or one geographic location. Your conceptual understanding explanation should help to show that a pattern in the world exists.

Also, state why this matters.  Why should we care about the issue? Why should we recognise this pattern and examine this issue through the lens of these concepts?  How does recognizing this pattern help us understand the complexity of the issue and/or solve this issue?

You can look use 2 or more macro concepts --or-- you can use 1 macro and 1 or more micro concept. These are listed above (and on the rubric below).

Once you've uploaded your vlog onto SeeSaw, work on your product (website, trifold board, video, etc.)  Remember, you can integrate some of the things you are working on in English class into this product as well. You can use sources from English, poetry and different genres, etc.--its not just okay to do so, but would be fantastic to see you find a way to do this. Work smarter--not harder. ;)

*note: the two student revolution vlogs were not developed for this specific assessment--they were  Semester 1 summative “Explanation of Revolutions” vlogs--your vlog should be much simpler and shorter than this).

"voices" summative project - product creation

Finalize your plan for your argument

5/8/2019

We will start today's class with a Gallery Walk of your A3 Posters...

Once you receive feedback, you will be asked to add a few more details to your poster including the following about your argument:
  • Include what concepts this issue is really about
    • -- Why is this a global issue?  (Which concept(s) is this related to?)
    • --What has led to the continuation --or-- prevalence of this problem?
    • --What prevents this from being resolved?   (Which concept is this related to?)
  • Include the type of product you will embed your argument within
    • Website
    • Documentary (w/ narration)
    • Trifold Board Display
    • Original 2-D/3-D artwork  (w/ artist's statement)
    • Original work of writing/literature (w/ author's statement)
    • TEDTalk
Once you have these details, take a photo of your poster and add it to a SeeSaw post with a brief caption of what you plan to do and why you chose to do this.
