Although it is Friday, we are following a Wednesday schedule today. This gives you nearly 1 1/2 hours to work on your formative investigation on the Industrial Revolution. Today you will mostly work independently on your investigation. What you will also do is throughout this process, you will work with different "clock partners" to collaborate on ideas, research resources, and for peer feedback on your investigation process and documentation. I will also be conferencing with any student individually that would like me to look at their investigation document and provide feedback. Your investigation document is due Monday, Feb. 15th at the beginning of class (you will work on creating an infographic in class with partners on Monday).
Yes, Joshua, we will also watch the Week in Rap! Here are links to resources you'll need for today: Today's class will be spent with 1/2 of the class time devoted to continuing your formative investigation on the Industrial Revolution; the other half will be devoted to catching up on current events. Today, we will watch the latest edition of CNN Student News. And of course, this week's Flocabulary: "The Week in Rap". Have a great Lunar New Year! Today you will mostly work independently on your investigation. Don't worry, it is still formative. What you will also do is throughout this process, you will work with different "clock partners" to collaborate on ideas, research resources, and for peer feedback on your investigation process and documentation. This will be a "guided" independent investigation to help you prepare for the summative investigation -- one in which you will pick the revolution of your choice (Mrs. Stewart will provide a list to choose from).
Today, you will also work in a small group to create a Mind Map of the Industrial Revolution. Your mind map should include what your group knows so far about the causes, process and consequences of the Industrial Revolution. It should also include the areas of focus for this in economic, social, environmental and technological aspects of the revolution. Okay, let's get started! Here are links to resources you'll need for today: Pick one of the news media sources from the Fridays: Current Events & Global Issues page.
On the news' website, use their search bar to find news articles that contain the words "revolution" and/or "change". Pick an article to read and be prepared to discuss this with the class. Today, you will begin another formative investigation. This time, your focus will be on the Industrial Revolution. You will also work independently on your investigation. Don't worry, it is still formative. Continue learning about how revolutions bring about rapid change, exam their causes, the process of change, and consequences. We will also practice taking more effective and efficient notes . . .
Helpful Links for Today's Tasks: Students, in my absence, please continue to work with your partner(s) on your investigation of the Scientific Revolution. Steps 1-7 must be completed by Sunday night @ 9pm. We will work with the data you collected, summaries your wrote, etc. in class on Monday to put it all together as a complete investigation.
Reminder: Stay focused on your group's specific topic. Use the research questions you came up with to guide your research. Only take notes on information that helps you answer the questions. Keep your notes relevant and focused. Same for your summary. Your 1-2 paragraph summary is you summarizing what you learned about your investigation on the Scientific Revolution and is essentially you answering the research questions with evidence and supporting details from your notes and sources. Also, you voted and the majority selected the Industrial Revolution for your next formative investigation (don't worry--you'll still have a chance to investigate the French Revolution when we get to the Summative Investigation if you really want to).
