3/19/2016

Today, you will work briefly on the Globalization unit vocabulary.

Today's Task:
  1. Go to Quizlet.com
  2. Start a new set of flashcards & title the set "Globalization unit"
  3. Add 20 words from the unit vocabulary list (see slide) -- you choose which 20 to add.  Link to Intro to Globalizaiton presentation
  4. Define in your own words -- do NOT simply copy a definition from a website. You must put this in your own words. But don't assume you know a definition. Look it up and then put into your own words
  5. Add an image (if one is available)
  6. Save your list!

TODAY YOU SHOULD BE WORKING ON RESEARCHING THE CONSEQUENCES AND IMPACT THAT YOUR SELECTED REVOLUTION HAS HAD. THIS MEANS YOUR FOCUS IS ON LIFE AFTER THE REVOLUTION.

At this point, you should have concluded your research on cause(s) of your revolution, the process of how revolutionary changes were brought about and by whom (revolutionary figures and key individuals and groups involved in the revolution). Today is the last day you will work on the investigation in class.  If you do not finish Step 5 in class today, you will need to complete this for homework, along with steps 6 and 7 this week.  Wednesday's class will be spent working on your revolutions poster.

Be sure you are checking the criterion strands to ensure your work reflects your best effort to achieve the highest MYP level.

Week 8 (Last week of trimester 2) - Monday - Summative Revolution Investigation - investigate "Process"

3/1/2016

Today's class you should focus on investigating the "process" of how your selected revolution occurred. your questions should be about "how...?" and "who...?"

Picture

By now, you should have already investigated the cause of your revolution-- what caused it to occur and why it occurred. You should also know when it occurred and some information about what life was like before and leading up to the revolution.

Now, you'll look at life during the revolution.
Helpful links during this investigation:

  • Intro to MYP Concept of “Change” --you may want to review to understand 3 parts of change: causation, process and consequences
  • Additional Information about Criterion B Investigations (Year 3)
You should consider key individuals and groups involved in the process of bringing about revolutionary changes. And possibly counter-revolutionary groups (people who tried to stop or slow down the revolution).  What actions were taken by groups or individuals to help bring about fast changes that ultimately occurred as a result of the revolution? Was technology or new innovation part of the process? What methods were used by people to bring about change? Process also might involve looking at a timeline... what happened & when? Then what happened after that? And then...?

The questions you'll need to ask to understand process differ for each revolution since some revolutions are social, political, economic, technological, environmental--they all had different causes, happened at different times in history and may have happened as a result of natural chain reactions or by very intentional and highly orchestrated efforts by people involved.  But this is what you should spend time today investigating.

You will be asked to partner up mid-way through class today to share with a partner what you have learned --or are learning about the process of your revolution. You are expected to show your partner what notes you have related to "process" of revolutionary change.

Week 7 - Friday - how to start a revolution simulation (cont.)

2/28/2016

Today, your group will continue the process of "starting a revolution" for the cause you've identified as something that your group feels NEEDS to change in society.

Before you work further on the "process", please read the following article and wiki website. It may also help you think about the "process" of your summative investigation revolution you are researching:
  • How to Start a Revolution - wikiHow
  • 6 People You Need to Start a Revolution - alternet.org

HOW would you make this revolution happen? (cause & process)
Process..

  • Find a revolutionary leader
  • Create a Slogan/Campaign (something people will remember)
  • Find a way to get the word out about your revolution-- how will people know?
  • Where can they find information?
  • How & where can they join you? What should they do to help you?
  • How will you deal with people who oppose your ideas? (counter revolutions)
  • How will you avoid losing momentum?
  • How will you avoid disagreements & fighting within your group?
