Today, you will begin another formative investigation. This time, your focus will be on the Industrial Revolution. You will also work independently on your investigation. Don't worry, it is still formative.  What you will also do is throughout this process, you will work with different "clock partners" to collaborate on ideas, research resources, and for peer feedback on your investigation process and documentation. This will be a "guided" independent investigation to help you prepare for the summative investigation -- one in which you will pick the revolution of your choice (Mrs. Stewart will provide a list to choose from).

Okay, let's get started! Here are links to resources you'll need for today:
  • Industrial Revolution Formative Investigation (Presentation)
  • Individual Investigation Document Template (Template - Make a copy & share!)
  • Submit YOUR Investigation Document (Form to Submit Link)

Revolutions: Reading, Note-taking, & summarizing

Continue learning about how revolutions bring about rapid change, exam their causes, the process of change, and consequences. We will also practice taking more effective and efficient notes . . .
  • "We have laptops... so why do we still have to take notes on paper?"
    • Here's the evidence of the benefits of writing down notes instead of digital note-taking:

Week 2 - Friday: Scientific revolution: continue investigation steps 4-7:

Students, in my absence, please continue to work with your partner(s) on your investigation of the Scientific Revolution. Steps 1-7 must be completed by Sunday night @ 9pm. We will work with the data you collected, summaries your wrote, etc. in class on Monday to put it all together as a complete investigation.

Reminder: Stay focused on your group's specific topic. Use the research questions you came up with to guide your research. Only take notes on information that helps you answer the questions. Keep your notes relevant and focused. Same for your summary. Your 1-2 paragraph summary is you summarizing what you learned about your investigation on the Scientific Revolution and is essentially you answering the research questions with evidence and supporting details from your notes and sources.

Also, you voted and the majority selected the Industrial Revolution for your next formative investigation (don't worry--you'll still have a chance to investigate the French Revolution when we get to the Summative Investigation if you really want to).

Today's Guiding Question (debatable question):
Based on the definition of "revolution", do the topics below meet the criteria for being a true "revolution"?
You can choose to either read the article I provided--or do a search for an article to read related to the topic.

Today we will begin our first investigation into historical revolutions. A great starting point in history is to look at the modern revolutionary period that happened in Europe with a series of revolutions, beginning with the Scientific Revolution.
We will begin a formative group investigation into the Scientific Revolution (and the Enlightenment Period). You will be assigned to a group. Each group will have a specific area of focus for their research in this investigation process.
