tuesday's class:
One day without shoes

Today, you will be wearing your handmade shoes from scrap materials.

We will participate in a "Gallery Walk" of your Levels of Development presentations today.

In class, you will participate in a walk outside--barefoot as well as with your scrap shoes you made. You will compare how your feet felt walking barefoot vs. how it felt walking on the ground's surface with your shoes made of scrap material.

We will also watch a video about the hardships and health challenges faced by some who could not afford a pair of shoes. I hope today is a day that brings awareness to each of you of how privileged we are to own shoes, attend such a great school and have so many things and opportunities in our life that so few of the world's people have-- we are fortunate to be born into circumstances that allow for a high standard of living--and also a chance at a good quality of life. I hope today reminds you of this as you reflect on the experience and your learning.

I hope today's experience plants a seed of hope and desire to change this situation for so many of the 1+ billion people who do not have even the simple luxury of a pair of shoes.

For this design challenge, you asked to try to wear the shoes all day, if they last.

All students are expected to wear them and make repairs to them until at least 12pm (Advisory class). During today's Advisory, you will take a photo of your shoes (on your feet) and upload this to a formative task in Managebac. You will also fill out the Criterion D - Evaluation handout given to you for the performance test of your shoe design. This must be completed and turned in by the end of the day.
