groups will continue filming and editing their "stop the stereotypes" video.

Today is your last day to work on this in class. If your group would like to continue working on this... that is a group decision to work on it over break (there is not any requirement to continue over break and no student group can force a group member to work on it--group members must volunteer to do so).
Completed videos will be shown when we return from the break in January. Students will vote on videos and the group that receives the most votes will have their video shown at the MS Assembly in January.
Helpful Links for Today's Tasks:
  • Stop the Stereotype Video Project (Presentation with instructions, example videos from last year, template links, etc.)
  • Submit Your Group's Youtube Video link (click on this link for Google Form)

T2 Week 5 tuesday - stop the stereotypes group video project

12/16/2015

Today, you will begin working with a small group to create a "Stop the Stereotypes" video that advocates (look this word up!) for diversity and helps stop the myths and misperceptions created by stereotypes that people and groups are sometimes labeled by. This is your opportunity to take what you have learned in this cultural unit "This I Believe..." and apply it to help others. This is a TAKE ACTION project! It is also a competition! The group with the best video (you will get a chance to vote) will be shown during a MS Assembly in January to help raise awareness about the harm (emotional, physical, loss of opportunity, discrimination, etc.) due to stereotypes being perpetuated in society. Good luck to all groups! I look forward to seeing what you create!

For today, we will continue exploring and learning about the world's various culture regions by looking at current news events happening in the various regions around the world.

Today's Task:  Create a World Report Digital Newspaper
Links for Today's Task:
  • World Headline News (Presentation)
  • ChannelOne Student News Site  (Find an article on this site)
  • World Headline News - Newspaper Template (you'll type your group's article here)
Find and read a news article about a news event from your table group's culture region.
As we have done each week, you will record information to help you summarize the article (who, what, when, where, why, and how).  Be prepared to summarize this to your table group members --and to the class.
  • Each group member will take turns summarizing their article (approx. 2 minutes each)
  • Afterwards, decide as a table group, which article was the most interesting or "newsworthy". You will then add a headline & brief news summary for the article you selected.

And of course we have today's Flocabulary: The Week in Rap

Essential question(s) we will use to explore culture & culture regions:

  • How do different cultural regions around the world compare to one another?
  • What happens when cultures within that region do not share the common characteristics of the other cultures around them (major vs. minor culture culture groups)

Today's Warm-up:
In your journal... look at the Culture Region map and pick 1 region that YOU think you could identify at least 1 culture trait (characteristic) in common such as food, belief, lifestyle, clothing, art, tradition, holiday, etc....
