Government trade & alliance simulation

Picture
Today you will participate in a governance simulation called "The Great Game". You will have to practice quick decision-making for your country you will represent. You will have to strategize to build power and resources.

You will need to decide whether you will do this peacefully or through invasion or war. Be careful -- engaging in war or invasion can have drastic consequences. Good luck today!

Students:
Please welcome Mr. Joseph Ascutia to our class today!
Today we are fortunate to have our special guest, Mr. Joseph Ascutia, Mayor of Camarines Norte, Philippines, with us in class to discuss governance. He will give a brief overview of the governmental changes he has witnessed in his lifetime in the Philippines, give you background information on why he chose to go into politics after a successful career in business. He will listen to your questions you have related to what characteristics lead to good governance. He will share with you how he makes decisions about developing his town, steps he has taken towards improving the local economy and education system, etc. Also, you can ask him any question you have about the Philippines, his town and the schools there (for those of you that have signed up or are interested in our service trip there in February). Please come ready to ask good questions and learn!

Simulation of global trade: imports & Exports

  • In today's class, you will apply what you have learned so far about how economies work--and what you have learned about the country you selected to research.

You will have 30 minutes to prepare for the "Global Market Place" -- where you will try to sell off your surplus of products (products your country exports) -- and try to gather the products your country needs/wants (products your country imports).

Each country will be given time to walk around and "browse" to see what is available in the market before the market opens for business.

Use the following links to resources to help you prepare:

  • Link to Country Trade Sheet Template (Your Country's 1 page Advertisement)
