Thursday and Friday's Objectives:
  • Practice taking more effective and efficient notes . . .
    • "We have laptops... so why do we still have to take notes on paper?"
      • Here's the evidence of the benefits of writing down notes instead of digital note-taking:
        • "A Learning Secret: Don’t Take Notes with a Laptop" - Scientificamerican.com
        • "Why Using Pen And Paper, Not Laptops, Boosts Memory: Writing Notes Helps Recall Concepts, Ability To Understand" - DailyMedical.com
        • "Why Writing by Hand Could Make You Smarter" - Psychologytoday.com
  • Through practicing our improved note-taking skills, we will...
    • Learn about some innovative ways in which Rome ruled an empire
    • Understand the Greek influence on Rome
    • Identify key aspects of Roman architecture and technology
    • Learn about key aspects of Roman life.

Friday's Task:
Read Chapter 8: "The Roman Republic" and complete the 2-column notes in your journal. This will be formatively assessed by Mrs. Stewart at the end of next week (we will take handwritten notes of Chapters 8 and 9). Use the suggested outline for your notes provided in the 2-Column Notes Template (linked below).  For this task, notes must be taken in your journal--not digitally on laptop. If you don't know why I ask you to hand write your notes, please read the articles linked above.

Reminder that G-SPICE digital notes are due by the beginning of class next Tuesday. You will have a short formative quiz on the Roman Empire on Tuesday!

Helpful Links for Thursday and Friday's Classes:
  • The Roman Empire (Presentation)
  • Chapter 8: The Roman Republic (textbook chapter reading)
  • 2-Column Notes Template - (use this to set up your notes in your journal -- do not copy this document!!! You are HANDWRITING YOUR NOTES!!!)
  • G-SPICE Notes Template (this one will be typed notes. You should already have a copy of this)
  • Link to submit your 2-Column Notes (submit HW here -- Due Tuesday, Jan. 26th)
