APHG - Daily agenda (2018-2019)

Folk & Pop Culture + Preserving Culture

10/25/2018

After today's Formative MCQ on Pop & Folk Culture, we will wrap up CH. 4 and begin CH. 5 on Identity. Chapter 5 will include examining gender, ethnicity, race, nationality and sexuality and how these various aspects of culture shape our own identity and sense of belonging or sense of "otherness" that we may separate others into labels and categories to further our own sense of who we are and who we are not.  Chapter 4 (Fouberg) does a nice job of describing these aspects of identity. Be sure to read through this chapter.

As you watch this TEDTalk, please consider some of the concepts we have covered in CH. 4 on Culture--and what we will cover in CH. 5 on Identity.
Consider the terms of ethnocentric viewpoints of others and a cultural relativity viewpoint.

HW: Read CH. 4 (Fouberg) + Work on CH. 4 study guide

Be sure to have read some of Chapter 5 (Fouberg) to familiarize yourself with the terms and concepts of identity presented in Fouberg's chapter 5.  There is a study guide to go along with this.
