APHG - Daily agenda

April 10 & 12: urban & suburban challenges & decline

4/10/2018

On Tuesday... we will look at 2 different phenomena occurring post-Industrialization in the U.S. and U.K.   We see some cities experiencing urban decline with people moving to suburban areas; we also see a decline in suburbia with a renewed interested with returning to the urban areas. And we also see a shift in some creating new urban areas within suburbia. Today we will take a look at what is causing the ebb and flow of people from urban to suburban and back to urban areas. The where and why this is happening and what the future implications are is what we will explore today.

Later in the week on Thursday... we will also look at some of the other urban challenges facing many of the rapidly growing cities in other regions of the world. There is a document dropped in your APHG Folder called "Urbanized: Journey to Planet Earth". We'll watch the 25 minute video in class while you follow along answering the questions. There are additional helpful links at the bottom of this related to megacities, largest cities, and well-planned cities.
Use all of these cities as potential case-studies (hint, hint, hint...)
