MS Service Learning During Clubs

Each MS grade level will have the opportunity to get involved in service-learning during one of the trimesters during the 2015-2016 school year. The plan is as follows:
Trimester 1 - Grade 8 Service-Learning Activities
English Tutoring at Dongchundong Community Center
15 grade 8 students will be participating in service-learning this trimester during H Block club time. Students will spend Monday's H Block preparing and meeting with teachers to plan fun lessons and activities for children they will mentor and tutor on Wednesdays. On Wednesdays, these 15 students will visit with a child (grade 1-3) they will tutor for 1 hour at the Dongchundong Community Center. They will be chaperoned by either a CI parent volunteer, Mrs. Stewart, or staff from the CI Experiential Education office.
On Mondays, students will also participate in group and individual service reflection activities and record written reflections in Managebac twice during the trimester.
Trimester 2 - Grade 7 Service-Learning Activities
Grade 7 students will spend 5 weeks in a club of their choice and 5 weeks participating in service-learning opportunities. Every student will have the opportunity to participate in service for 5 weeks and participate in a club of their choice for 5 weeks. Half-way through the trimester, students will switch. Those participating in service for the first half of the trimester will be able to participate in a club of their choice. Student Council members will participate in Student Council activities for the duration of the 2nd Trimester. Some Student Council members serving on the "Service" committee of Student Council will be going off-campus on Wednesdays for service 3 times during the trimester.
Tentatively Scheduled Wednesday Service Options for Grade 7 (Trimester 2):

Grade 6 students will spend 5 weeks in a club of their choice and 5 weeks in a service-learning program. Mondays will be spent learning more about what "service-learning" is and explore options for service in the community. Grade 6 students will also participate in a "Global Citizenship" class, taught by World Vision -Korea. Wednesdays will be spent off campus participating in service activities off campus. Every student will have the opportunity to participate in service for 5 weeks and participate in a club of their choice for 5 weeks. Half-way through the trimester, students will switch. On Mondays, students will also participate in group and individual service reflection activities and record written reflections in Managebac twice during the trimester.

Global Youth Service Day
April 15, 2016
This event is an internationally recognized day of service. It will be the culminating event of CI's 3rd annual International Week to celebrate our commitment to the Chadwick Mission Statement, our commitment to experiential education (learning through experiences), and as a RoundSquare school to the RoundSquare IDEALS of internationalism and service. VS students will be participating in service activities both on and off campus. These will be planned by classroom and grade-level teachers. MS students and US Students will be off campus for the entire school day participating in a service activity planned by Advisors with their Advisory groups.
