May 2-6Th: Prepare for Globalization unit summatives

This week, you should work on preparing for your summative assessments for the Globalization unit.  On Wednesday, May 4th you will write your summative essay on the Pros and Cons of Globalization. You will be summatively assessed on Criterion A and formatively assessed on Criterion D.

On Wednesday, May 11th, you will participate in a classroom debate on the pros and cons of globalization. You will be asked to prepare an argument for your assigned position (pro or con) and must defend this position with evidence to support your position. You will listen to the opposing viewpoint and prepare a counter argument response. 

You will be summatively assessed during the debate on Criterion C (Communicating) and Criterion D (Thinking Critically)

It is suggested you spend some time outside of class preparing for these summatives.

Here is the link for the textbook chapter (in PDF) you need to read and take Cornell Notes.

Please take 2-column notes and add a "summary" at the bottom of each section's notes. There should be a section summary of notes for Section 2 and Section 3. The notes should be in bullet format. Please also try to include page numbers for reference for you to go back & study.

This week's homework is to read through Chapter 17 of the textbook. Chapter 17 is about European colonization of the Americas and Africa. Through this, you'll gain a better understanding of how the Columbian Exchange and Atlantic Trade Triangle (also referred to as the Atlantic Slave Trade) was established and the economic, political and cultural impact this had.  This will help you understand the history of modern-day globalization and how the history of European colonization led to globalization today.

Students:
Your homework is to read Chapter 16 on European exploration and take 2-Column Cornell Notes in your journal. This chapter will help further your understanding of how the Age of Exploration led to the period of European colonization and imperialism and set the stage for global trade and migration we see today with globalization.

Trimester 3 week 1 homework: Due monday, march 14th

After Monday's class on March 7th, students will need to finish any remaining research of Step 5 and complete Steps 6 (summary) and Steps 7 (reflection) on their own time for homework.  Completed Investigation document is due Sunday, March 13th at 9pm.

Additionally, students will work on their summative poster on Wednesday, March 9th in class. Students will need to finalize their poster by Monday, March 14th.

T2 Week 4: Write essay outline

This week, you will work on using your notes, mind map & flow chart to create an outline of your conflict. Remember outlines are limited to only 1 page, must be bullet points of ideas (not complete sentences).  This is the “pre-writing” of your essay but you cannot have any sentences or paragraphs pre-written for your essay.

The outline will help you organize the points and supporting details you plan to use in your essay. And what information will go into each paragraph.

Below you will see the format of the 5-paragraph essay. Use this to help structure your outline. You should find this already in the Summative Research Notes Template document you have. If not, go back to the original template and copy/paste this into YOUR notes. 

You can watch this Brainpop video to help you with creating outlines.
